#1045 Cannot log in to the MySQL server (no replies)

Ok... please help!

I am running mysql on mac osx ppc 10.5.8.
I can connect to it through terminal with password enabled and everything...
but when i try to connect with phpmyadmin i cannot connect at all..

I tried almost everything! Please HElp!!!!!

Mysql version 5.1.40
PHP version 5.2.5
MyphpAdmin version 3.3.5.1
